Birgitta Behr and Sandra Wendeborn | Susie - The Granddaughter from Number 4 House
- In a time of rising anti-Semitism, we think it is more than important to speak openly about the problem. Today we have the honor to offer to your attention one of the few titles in Bulgarian (with autograph) in our English-language bookstore - "Susie" by the German author Birgitta Behr and the illustrator Sandra Wendeborn. The graphic novel is based on one of countless true stories from the years of the Holocaust. The book offers a special and child-friendly summary of the events between 1933 and 1945 that has not been seen before and a concrete approach to historical and cultural education. The publication is a project of the "Cultural Perspectives" Foundation and represents work with our memory and worldview. One of the undoubted highlights is anti-Semitism and the memory of Susie and the Holocaust. The aim is to build bridges to the present, impart knowledge and raise awareness of the dangers associated with anti-Semitism, but also with exclusion in general (xenophobia, otherness, bullying, etc.). "Susie" succeeds in offering an optimistic outlook, especially for children, that encourages them to believe in the "good" and never lose hope.About the author:Birgitta Ber is the author and illustrator of the book, which was published by Ars publishing house in September 2016 in Germany. He studies at the University of the Arts in Berlin and realizes many projects and project weeks on the theme of "exclusion and diversity", develops and stages plays with children, leads artistic workshops and realizes exhibitions and is an active school advisor in the commission for work in regional education.
