All Fairy Tales by Oscar Wilde - with illustrations and a signature by Yassen Gyuzelev
- Publisher: Colibri
Before departing for Bologna to attend the 59th Illustration Exhibition at BolognaFiere, Yassen Gyuzelev stopped by Elefant to sign hundreds of copies of Pinocchio, Orpheus and Eurydice, and The Complete Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde. Autographed copies await you!
This edition brings together all the tales from Oscar Wilde’s two classic collections: The Happy Prince and Other Tales and A House of Pomegranates (1892). The first collection is primarily intended for children, while the second—which the author envisioned as a kind of sequel—targets a broader audience.
When Wilde published The Happy Prince and Other Tales in 1888, he had modest expectations, yet it quickly became his first commercial success. The author’s elegant style, artistry, and wit shine through every page. The collection blends fairy tales with fantastical elements, animal stories, and satirical allegories, all infused with Wilde’s signature humor and refined prose—qualities he would later perfect in his plays.
The book is published with Yassen Gyuzelev’s magnificent illustrations and translated by Zhechka Georgieva.
Yassen Gyuzelev is one of the most talented contemporary illustrators. His works dazzle with their brilliant technique, inspired by the Renaissance and 19th-century realist schools, while skillfully merging Pre-Raphaelite traditions and Art Nouveau with modern design concepts, striking perspectives, and dramatic contrasts of light and shadow.
Among the classics Gyuzelev has illustrated are Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll, Pinocchio by Carlo Collodi, The Queen of Spades by Alexander Pushkin, Don Quixote by Cervantes, as well as fairy tales by the Brothers Grimm and Oscar Wilde. His portfolio also includes works by John Ruskin, Charles Dickens, Arthur Conan Doyle, Boccaccio, Jules Verne, and Ibsen, mythological tales like Arthur and Excalibur and Orpheus and Eurydice, and biographical stories of figures such as Socrates and Michelangelo.
Gyuzelev has received numerous international and national illustration awards, including the prestigious Illustrator of the Year at the Bologna Children’s Book Fair and the Konstantin Konstantinov Award for Illustration. He is a two-time winner of the Hristo G. Danov Award, most recently in 2022 for his illustrations in Orpheus and Eurydice by Ivan B. Genov (published by Kolibri).
