- Based on the story of the Greek writer N. Kazdaglis "Diver".The inhabitants of the Greek islands in the Aegean Sea are engaged in catching mushrooms. This is a difficult and dangerous job. Many remain crippled for life. The best diver is Nikolos Stangas (Yuri Vasiliev). The captains of the schooners Lovetsky promised him double pay. But Nikolos refuses - the mushroom killed his father. He helps Uncle Anestis fish.Uncle Anestis' daughter Lenie and Nikolos fall in love. But to get married and start a household, they need money. Nikolos was hired on the schooner of Captain Alimonos (Mikhail Gluzsky) and went to the shores of Africa for six months to collect mushrooms. One day, Captain Alimonos and his assistant Menelas replace the hourglass, which is used to record the time divers have spent underwater. Divers begin to stay at depth twice as long as they should. Disaster is coming soon. Nikolos, rising from another dive, feels that his legs are gone. When the hunters returned home, Nikolos learned that Uncle Anestis had forbidden Lenny to marry him. But young people marry secretly. Finding a job on the island turns out to be impossible for Nikolos, he does not receive a pension, is crippled, unemployed, almost a beggar, Nikolos begins to think that he has ruined Lenie's life.He is hired on the schooner of Captain Dedusis and on the first descent under the water he cuts the hose through which the air enters ...Script:G.
