- Gavroche's story is an excerpt from Victor Hugo's great novel Les Misérables. The events described in it refer to 1832, when the working people of Paris revolted against the domination of the bourgeoisie and royal power. The streets of the huge city are covered with barricades. Along with the brave fighters, Gavroche also fought. Left to his own devices, the child lives on the streets and is forced to make ends meet. He is clever, resourceful, cheerful and often defeats hunger with a cheerful song. In a small ragged tramp lives the great soul of the French people - one of the most cheerful and freedom-loving peoples in the world.
