Vintage poster "The Great Watz" (USA) - 1938
- In 1845 Vienna, Johann Strauss II (Fernand Grevy) – “Yonachy” to his friends – prefers writing and performing waltzes to anything else. In recent times, the waltz has not been considered appropriate public music. After being fired from his bank job due to his preoccupation with composing, he decided to follow his passion and form an orchestra. After some opera singers, including Carla Donner (Miliza Corjus), hear his music, they introduce it to the masses, royalty and music publisher Julius Hofbauer (Hugh Herbert). With his newfound musical fame, Johanni's life, which includes his work in the European Revolutions, changes. He is torn between his love for his beloved and faithful wife Poldi Vogelhuber (Louise Reiner) and his more emotionally passionate but somewhat destructive love for Carla Donner, who is herself involved with Count Anton Hohenfried (Lionel Atwill). In the main roles: Fernand Grave, Louisa Rainer, Militsa Korjus and others. The film was made in 1938 and the poster you see is from the original production. The poster is in good condition for its age, with preserved colors and lettering. It has been folded in half but could easily be framed so the folds don't show. The paper is thick and rough.* The original title of the film was "The Great Waltz".
