L'Europeo Magazine No. 83 | The Eternal and the Saints | March/April 2023
For centuries, in the soul-saving realm of poetry, women existed merely as a muse—at best. Her emotions, dreams, and inner depths reached us only through the prism of what men imagined them to be. A remarkable misunderstanding, considering the scarcely disputable truth that no mystery has ever been—or ever will be—more impenetrable to man than the universe of woman herself.
Only after the nearly two-thousand-year silence separating Sappho from Emily Dickinson did the balance begin to shift. The whisper of women's voices became a melody, and that melody grew into a hymn to life—a hymn that only women have ever possessed the power to bring into the world.
