  • Summer—the season of renewal, vitality, and new beginnings—has arrived. With it comes the latest issue of Bulgarian Artist, dedicated to the extraordinary young musicians of the twenty-first century who are already carrying Bulgaria's name onto the world's most prestigious stages.

“I believe deeply in the talent and potential of young artists. Classical music depends on them, and fortunately Bulgaria is home to an exceptional new generation of instrumentalists and singers who prove not only that classical music remains contemporary, but that it belongs to eternity. Times change, generations succeed one another, and the world is constantly evolving, yet the universal language of classical music continues to inspire and unite us.

In this issue, we wanted to place some of Bulgaria's brightest emerging stars in the spotlight, while also paying tribute to the giants upon whose shoulders they stand as they embark on their journeys toward the world's great concert halls and opera houses,”

says internationally acclaimed soprano and publisher Sonya Yoncheva.

In a special feature, music editor Irena Gudeleva speaks with an outstanding group of young musicians who have already become defining voices of their generation:

    • Emanuil Ivanov (piano)
    • Georgi Dimitrov – Zhozho (classical guitar)
    • Sofia Prodanova (violin)
    • Stoyan Karaivanov (bandoneon)
    • Victoria Markova (harp)
    • Georgi Grozev (trumpet)
    • Viktor Vichev (piano)
    • Alexander Vichev and Agleya Kaneva (percussion duo)
    • Alexandra Dicheva and Mila Mihova (piano duo)
    • Lora Markova (violin)
    • Sion Naiman (cello)
    • Viktor Teodosiev (French horn)
    • Ivaylo Vasilev (piano)

Among the featured vocal artists is baritone Yosif Slavov, alongside the laureates of the inaugural Krasimira Stoyanova International Opera Competition. Continuing the magazine's commitment to building bridges between generations, eras, and artistic traditions, musicologist Zdravka Andreeva contributes an in-depth study of seven of Bulgaria's most distinguished instrumentalists from the second half of the twentieth century: Milena Mollova, Anton Dikov, Ivan Drenikov, Georgi Badev, Stoyka Milanova, Mincho Minchev, and Ventseslav Nikolov. Her essay explores the evolution of Bulgaria's performing schools and artistic life during the socialist period and the early years of democratic transition.

In a moving memorial essay, Ana Jovanović pays tribute to three remarkable Bulgarian artists closely connected with the world of music whom we lost earlier this year: Mihail Belchev, Kiril Ampov, and Margret Nikolova.

Editor-in-Chief Ivaylo Spasov takes readers behind the scenes of opera houses, concert halls, and theatres across Bulgaria and abroad, sharing encounters with celebrated artists, reflections on today's cultural landscape, and fascinating stories from behind the curtain. Readers will also discover the latest developments surrounding the Gala in Sofia 2026 festival and enjoy exclusive conversations with several laureates of Sonya Yoncheva's inaugural Thracian Classical Music Awards.

A special place in this issue is devoted to one of opera's true legends—Bulgarian soprano Anna Tomowa-Sintow, recipient of a Lifetime Achievement Award for her outstanding contribution to the classical arts. In an exclusive interview, she reflects on the remarkable journey of a career that has shaped generations of performers and audiences alike.

Photography, poetry, fiction, emerging technologies, and many other artistic perspectives complete this rich summer edition of Bulgarian Artist—a celebration of creativity, excellence, and the enduring future of classical music.

  • "Bulgarian Artist" is the newest cultural media in Bulgaria, which is published on a quarterly basis. It is published by opera prima Sonia Yoncheva and her production company SY11. The publication's mission is to reflect the achievements of Bulgarian artists, to strengthen their prestige in society, to highlight problems and to seek solutions for the sustainable development of the Bulgarian cultural industry. The media is an ideological continuation of the newspaper "Bulgarian Artist", which was published between 1926 and 1934 as an organ of the Union of Dramatic and Opera Artists in Bulgaria.
